How to Finish a Cross Stitch Pin Cushion and Scissor Fob

Assembling the Pin Cushion

Sewing Machine Method:

1. Trim your finished piece to about 3/8" - 1/2"  away from all stitching.

2. Cut a piece of matching quilting cotton (or fabric of your choice) the same size.

3. Place pieces together wrong-side out, and stitch around the edges of seam allowance. Leave a hole in the bottom edge that is about 2" wide.

4. Turn your stitching right-side out, and fill with your choice of filling.

5. Whip-stitch the hole closed by hand.

By-Hand Method:

1. The back stitch around the edge of design will be your sewing line for assembly.

2. Backstitch a 2nd piece of linen the same size for the back piece. Trim both fabric pieces, leaving 3/8” fabric for the seam allowance, and fold back the edges along the sewing line.

3. Sew the top and bottom pieces together using a Whip stitch - take a stitch under the back stitching line on front piece, and then through the back stitch line on the back piece.

4. Stop sewing when there is 2 “ left. Fill with your choice of filling, then finish stitching the bottom side, securing your thread with a hidden knot.
